Yesterday, I was searching the web to find a useful list of walking bloggers based in the UK and I couldn’t find much to help apart from a couple of decent walking magazines.
So in order to help anyone else who is interested in rambling or hill walking, I thought I would create my own list. So here are my top 15 walking and rambling blogs written in the UK.
I created this list by reading and reviewing each site and have used my own personal preference. I have found that most good walking blogs focus on useful advice and tips for where and when to go. I also noticed that many contain some amazing photography that makes you want to get up from your computer and set off there and then.
Apologies if there is anyone I have missed off but please feel free to share your blog in the comments section if you think it will be of interest.

Hi Chris
I feel quite honoured to be on your shortlist, as I’m sure that there are many walking and rambling blogs that are better than mine. A trawl through my blogroll should reveal many of them.
Thanks for the mention and for the link.
Stef
Sorry, I forgot to mention another good resource – http://outdoorbloggers.com/index.php
Stef, no worries I thought your blog was interesting and certainly worth flagging up to anyone looking for some decent content.
Hi Chris, I too feel honoured to be included in your list. Many thanks and happy reading.

So: Mine’s a walking blog!
I had better start scribbling more beardy walking stuff straight away!
Ta for the mention Chris – but as Stef says, you will find some cracking walking blogs on my ‘Great Places to Visit’ section of my blog.
Hi Guys, thanks for your comments. I spent a lot of time looking for the best – in my opinion – so you are all welcome. I thought it was worth sharing. Chris
Hi Chris,
I just discovered my blog is on your list – thank you!
Rob
Chris, thanks for including me on your list. Though often my blog is about anything but walking! I kind of use walking as a peg to hang other things on, if that makes sense.
http://www.sussexrambler.blogspot.com contains pictures of walks and natural history, primarily from Sussex but also entries from Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Italy and South Africa.
Oh, nice one!! I will be having a look at these blogs. I love walking – and reading about it …
Here is my walking blogspot – http://www.GR130-blogspot.com
Great web page. It really is hard to find other walking bloggers on the web, especially UK bloggers. Here’s my walkers blogsite (http://hillcraftguidedwalking.wordpress.com/)
Hey, don’t forget me 🙂
I started my blog 6 weeks ago:
http://walksandwalking.com/
….getting the whole family involved!!
Chris, many thanks for including my effort on here. Now, I must go and add a little more to it in order to keep it in line with your recommendation.
Chris, just came across this list, some great blogs on here.. lots of food for thought and ideas for my next walk.. cheers!
No worries Vinny – I am glad you like it. I am thinking about writing a new list with some more additions to it as people seem to like this list.
Great information. I’ve been on all of those Blogs, some are excellent and i’ve added them to my own Blog.
I’m more into Moochings, so if you’re interested:-

Message *Chris, just reading through the comments and I noticed that I never thanked you for including my blog in your list. Thanks! (Belated).
And – Alan and I were both invited to Jersey on a bloggers junket, which was a fabulous opportunity. We are 2 and 3 on your list. Conincidence? Or down to the influence of this post? I don’t know, but I favour the latter theory. So – thanks again!
Hi Mark thanks for that I really appreciate it. I just did some research many moons ago and it seems to have been picked up all over the place. I was speaking to someone the other day who said they found this list and couldn’t believe it was on my blog. I think the stuff you guys do on your blogs is great. I wish I had a past time have as interesting as yours. Currently, mine is kick boxing and bringing up my little boy. Thanks for all of the comments I really appreciate them.
Great list- will enjoy browsing. You might find my walking site for walkers with babies of interest. Tips, walks and reviews for parents who love the outdoors! Babyroutes.co.uk
Hi Kate,
Thanks for commenting – feel free to mention this list on your blog. I am going to have a look at it in close detail now.

Great list btw.
Message * Here’s a good one – mostly on the Wales Coastal Path so far = http://charleshawes.veddw.com/
Message I started my website http://happyhiker.co.uk last year to see if I could improve on much of what is on offer in terms of describing walking routes and it seems to have been well received. Lots of tips too. Not sure if it counts as a “blog” as such though I have a blog page. Mainly it is a record of my walks but written in such a way that fellow walkers can easily follow the routes without getting bogged down in lots of historical/geographical/natural information or simply how the writer felt, what his dog was doing etc etc which I find clouds many walk descriptions. These descriptions might be interesting in the comfort of your home but out walking, directions are the main thing – at least that is my view. Also I have found many walk descriptions inaccurate or not giving enough information to find the route and I try to do better.
http://www.comewalkwithmeuk.com is my walking blog which describes my adventures exploring the beautiful British countryside! A lot of the blogs you have mentioned are ones I’ve come cross and rate highly!
Thanks for that addition Ian. I think I am going to do a new review of these pretty soon.
Message * Hi Chris, I was looking for fellow “Walking Bloggers”, with a view to catch up on what else is being written about UK Rambling/Hill walking (it’s easy to get drawn into your own little world/niche idea) and you’ve given me a kind of head-start in where to start looking …. There are some superb web-site based writers out there also …. So thanks for your 15 suggestions – I’ll certainly go check them out.
Cheers

Hi Gary, I am glad you found it useful. I might do an update some time soon as the list is a few years old now.
Message *Good idea Chris …. coz at least a couple of your original list don’t exist now or won’t load properly.
Hi Chirs. Here’s a new walking blog based in and around Herefordshire, the Black Mountains, the Brecon Beacons and South Wales called “Four poles and a bag of jelly babies” which can be found at: http://4poles.wordpress.com
There’s not a lot of dialogue about each of the walks but there are some really handy links to .KML, .MMO and .GPX files for most of the routes.
Cheers
Hi! I recently started a blog called 100 years walking. It’s mainly about the walking events I’m doing (e.g London to Brighton) and the training this involves, but it’s also about the things I see along the way. Do have a look if you’re interested!
Hi Chris, Thanks for these tips on walking blogs. Very useful!
I’m trying to name my new blog. Comments please on: ‘Burned out teacher and Recovering Heroin Addict take sabbatical escape’ ??
It’s true. We’ll be walking and bird watching and recovering in our different ways. Do you think anyone would read it?
Thanks for your time, Michelle
It certainly sounds like an interesting combination Michelle – it depends on how interesting you can make it I suppose.
Good luck with it.
Best wishes,
Chris
I regularly read two or three on the list. I’ve got my own blog about walking in the Peak District…and my adventures when using public transport.
Thanks for your comment Lee – I will take a look.
Enjoyed the links Chris – always good to find some good reads on hillwalking and hiking. My own blog is based on Ireland so might not be relevant here. https://aidymcglynn.wordpress.com
What great links – lots of inspiration. My blog is on walking for mental health and spiritual health – both short strolls and long-distance trails. About the Journey http://jackiemcall.co.uk/. Please take a look
Great write up on top 15 walking blogs, also take a look at http://ultratrailspain.com/come-hike-us/ — ideal for planning your next walking break!
I’m new to blogging, so I will be spending some time looking at the blogs on your list. Thank you for taking the time to compile it. My blog is http://www.aWalkOnTheMildSide.co.uk hope I’m on your list one day
Good to find a list as I am planning a walking trip to the uk next year and I need more inspiration. You haven’t listed two of my favourites so far: http://www.ramblingman.co.uk and http://www.coastalwalker.co.uk
Check them out! 🙂
Thanks Amanda I will do.
Hi Chris,
Thanks for this list, it’s so lovely to read fellow hill walkers experiences and discover new ones to climb.
I’ve also included my own blog – fairly new at it but so passionate about it.
