Last year, you might remember I started a charity pub quiz in the name of a former journalist and friend of mine called Nigel Scott who died a while back. The event thankfully was a huge success and great fun. In fact, it was so popular it sold out in just under five days, so this year the CIPR Committee and I have brought it back bigger and better. We have moved it to a new venue in Alea Casino, which means we have increased ...

Adrian Bridgwater, a freelance journalist and social media friend of mine tweeted yesterday that he was going to share his golden rules of public relations. I have been following Adrian for a while now and I find his insights, from the other side of the fence, interesting. So I started to read some of these rules and although most were obvious and clear common sense I could tell that PR professionals had broken a lot of them pretty regularly. This is the first guest post I have had on my blog and it’s from Nick Hill, a director at Binary Vision. I have known Nick for a while now and seen him speak several times, his knowledge and expertise in behaviour and interpersonal skills are extremely impressive and I thought it would be interesting to hear his take on client management in the PR industry. Nick uses the latest psychology tools to transform team members into high performers that in turn create more business. His programmes focus ...

I met up with an in-house PRO yesterday who told me his team has finally started using Twitter. Many PROs believe that a PR blog is just part of an echo chamber and is only ever going to get read/noticed by other PR people. Many suggest that we do it to pat ourselves on the back and congratulate each other on how successful we are. I am not sure I agree with this – that’s not why I do it. A recent post by Wadds, using some research which my good friend Tim ...
