  • If you are like me I imagine you have read quite a few posts before that give the usual advice about writing interesting and engaging content. Well I didn’t want to write something completely about the theory because I am always covering that type of stuff on here. As most of you know I manage a lot of social media communities for companies and brands of all sizes some regional, some national and others on a global basis. One thing I have noticed is that things have changed significantly in social media and online PR over the ...

  • This is the first of three posts I plan to do on the Premier League’s use of social media. I was doing some desktop research for a client the other day and I came across Man Utd’s Facebook page and I noticed it had more than 11 million likes and it got me wondering what amount of likes the other clubs could get, and whether the real table would reflect my Facebook likes table. So I have completed a review of each of the club’s Facebook pages and sorted ...

  • I thought this competition was worth sharing, one of my clients Audio Technica is running quite a nice Facebook competition. The competition has been created to celebrate the launch of it’s stylish new ATH-RE70 retro headphones which are pretty nice, it is giving fans of its Facebook page the chance to win one of five pairs from the first delivery into the UK (due October). To enter, all you have to do is post your favourite all-time retro-styled product by the end of ...

  • Facebook has announced today that due to popular demand it is adding a new button/feature to Facebook pages. Traditionally, users were asked to become fans of a page but that was changed a few months back. Facebook users are now asked to like a particular product or service and when they do this like is then added to their personal profile. This is also what Facebook uses to select which advertisements to display in a user’s account. When a user has liked a product or service they then receive all of the updates from that page within their newsfeed. This is brilliant if you really love that particular brand and want to stay on top of what ...

  • In December 2009 Facebook made a few adjustments to its formal policy on competitions and promotions which you no doubt will have heard about. The net result was that promotions on Facebook can’t hold: Photo contests which require profile photo manipulation Status updates which require posting updates for entry  Only contest entries once a user has become a fan of your page A couple of my clients have been liaising directly with Facebook over this and we have found out that you can actually hold a competition on your page if you support it will £5,000 worth of Facebook advertising. ...

  • Dear Facebook, As an administrator on several fan pages for our clients and it has become quite apparent that there is no way to moderate comments on one of your fan pages. Personally I find this a little daft as blogs have had this type of functionality for years and it seems to work just fine in that space. I am aware that administrators can remove comments by deleting each of them manually but we are looking to protect our fans from any negative comments being left on their own images. Basically, ...

  • I am an administrator on quite a few Facebook fan pages. I use the platform with some of my clients depending on whether the platform fits the client’s communications strategy. There are good things and bad things about Facebook. A good thing is it is constantly improving and looking to make its experience better. A bad thing is it often doesn’t communicate its changes well with its users, which often results in groups springing up displaying their hatred of its latest version. I always wonder why it doesn’t supply a simple two-minute video explaining its new features like so many other applications. In the earlier days of the platform we used to use groups to bring ...
