HD point and shoot camera launched by Panasonic

Posted by on 19 March 2008 | Categories: Consumer Technology

I know I write a lot about social media and public relations but I also have a huge interest in gadgets, football and lots of other topics, which you are already likely to know if you read my  other posts on the EFH Broadband blog or Wolfstar blog.

So here is another gadget story which interested me on the wires this morning. My friends at Tech Digest have reported that Panasonic has panasonic_dmc_fx500_1launched a 10 Mega-pixel camera (FX500)which in itself is pretty impressive for the every day user but it also has a big added extra.

The really exciting bit is that this camera also films in High Definition. Which is great as long as you don’t film me with it – I look bad enough as it is. Its HD movie mode is able to record at 1,280 x 720 at 30fps.

It also panasonic_dmc_fx500_2features include a 3-inch touchscreen display which seems to be the in-feature on every thing from mobile phones to HD TV’s at the moment.

It boasts a 25mm ultra-wide-angle Leica lens, 5x optical zoom, a high-speed burst shooting mode, an auto focus and Intelligent Auto mode for beginners (like me), red-eye correction, image stabiliser, face detection and intelligent ISO.

The price isn’t available yet but I hear rumours of a price of around £200 but its likely to appear in the US first. A more detailed analysis of the Panasonic FX500 can be found on the photography blog.

If you fancy reading about another interesting set of cameras check out my post on a new set of limited edition Olympus cameras.

The TZ5 is an advanced version of the popular TZ3. It combines the 28mm wide angle lens, which is 10x zoom OIS lens. With the addition of Intelligent Exposure and Digital Red-eye Correction, Panasonic’s Advanced Intelligent Auto mode consists of seven intuitive technologies, all which are specifically designed to help make photo-taking an enjoyable and seamless process.

Great post. I’m in the market for something like this. Have you had a chance to play with it, or any other HD point and shoot?

Thanks for your comments Elliot – alas I haven’t got to play wiht it myself but the reviews have been glowing so it seems like a safe bet.
